S3E59: Make Adjustments, Not Excuses

Make Adjustments. Not Excuses.

It doesn’t matter if your year began great or got off to a poor start. What matters is how you end it. This week, host Jake Thompson talks about the importance of making halftime adjustments — tweaks to your behavior, habits, and mental space to help you finish strong and start off next year where you want to be.

You have to build a winning mindset and to do that, it’s important to stop making excuses. If you got passed over for a promotion, didn’t meet your weight goals, or haven’t been training as much as you wanted, take a look in the mirror and figure out why. What could you have done differently? Where did you fall short?

But don’t stop there. Make the changes. It’s not too late to re-center and get to the place you want to be by the end of the year. But it takes a commitment to being honest with yourself and having the dedication you need to make the halftime adjustments in your own life to end on top.

“Good coaches in football and basketball, they can come up with a really good plan. They can help you come out of the gate strong in January. They can help you score some early points, get moving. But great coaches, the ones that finish games, win championships, they’re the ones that can make the halftime adjustments. They’re the ones that can evaluate what the opponent is doing, what curveballs life has thrown your way and then make tweaks.” -Jake Thompson

“As a competitor … you have to kill off your excuses. You have to learn to make adjustments. It’s not about what someone else is doing. It’s about what you’re going to do.” -Jake Thompson

“Life is going to challenge you, it’s going to try to knock you down, it’s going to throw you curveballs and knock you off your game. It may have ruined your year so far. But your year isn’t over yet.” -Jake Thompson
