There’s no one way that works for everyone. It’s up to you to find out the best way for you to reach your goals and stick to it, even when times are tough. This week, we hear from Danny Lehr, gym owner and co-founder of Caffeine and Kilos. He talks about his journey from athlete to entrepreneur and the challenges of finding his groove while pursuing new endeavors (like climbing Mount Whitney).

At first, developing a work-life balance was hard. But over time, he found ways to set aside much-needed time for family and calm amidst the hustle and bustle of running his own business. It came down to defining what he hoped to accomplish and then looking at what the practical steps were to move toward those end goals. By finding a balance between hope and possibility and staying true to a growth mindset, he developed a structure that worked for him.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Develop a system that works for you
  • Stay consistent with practicing healthy habits
  • Try something new even if you might not be good at it
  • Bring expectations and reality into alignment and balance
  • Know what your goals are

Quotes:

“There’s expectations and there’s reality. The gap between those — the tension between those — is what stress is.” -Danny Lehr

“As long as you’re in alignment with what your expectations are and with what reality is, there’s no real room for that tension.” -Danny Lehr

“I think that people have this preconceived notion that in order to be in great shape or to be healthy you need to be doing so much more and that’s not really the case. … It’s not this big undertaking, it’s just healthy habits put into place and being consistent with those healthy habits.” -Danny Lehr

“There’s lots of times in life I’ve experienced not being good at something and then, through practice, becoming —  if not great at it — getting some sort of ability.” -Danny Lehr

“It’s all about just getting the reps in because you’re going to learn with each and every experience.” -Jake Thompson
