You can’t be content with “pretty good” if you want to reach your goals.
Why? Because “pretty good” is just average.
- It checks the box.
- It meets the minimum standard.
- It’s enough to pass—but never enough to dominate.
And let’s be clear: Excellence is never confused with “pretty good.”
"Pretty good" is just another word for "good enough." And if you want to be great, good enough is never enough.
Average is a trap.
Think of average like purgatory.
It’s being the best of the worst and the worst of the best.
You’re stuck in the middle—not terrible, but nowhere near great. Just existing.
And that’s the danger. Because “pretty good” feels safe. It feels like you’re doing enough—but in reality, it’s just keeping you stuck.
Reject "Pretty Good" Like You Reject "Terrible."
If you want more, you have to reject mediocrity just as hard as you reject failure.
- Give your absolute best now—even if it’s not great yet.
- Learn from your reps, then show up and do it even better next time.
- Keep stacking effort, knowledge, and growth until your best becomes great.
Be Honest: Where Did You Settle This Week?
Look back at your past seven days.
- Where did you trade excellence for “pretty good”?
- Where did you put in just enough effort to get by instead of pushing for more?
- Where could you have raised your standard—but didn’t?
Be critical. No one else will see this evaluation but you.
And that’s the point.
Because the only way you break out of average is by being honest enough to admit when you’re settling for it.
Elevate your game. Reject mediocrity.
Compete for more.
