If you keep waiting for the “perfect” time, you’ll never move off the starting line.
I’ve been working on a new keynote.
- I’ve written it. Rewritten it.
- I’ve read it aloud, recorded myself, memorized sections.
- And still, I don’t feel “ready.”
Truth is, I could spend five more years refining it and still not feel 1000% ready.
But guess what?
If I never give the speech, I’m not a speaker.
I just have words on a page that never impact anyone.
How Many Starting Lines Are You Stuck At?
We do this all the time:
- Waiting to find a job we actually enjoy.
- Hesitating to ask out that person we’ve liked for years.
- Delaying starting a business—especially after failing once before.
We keep standing at the starting line, waiting for the "perfect" time.
But let’s be real: It never comes.
The "perfect time" doesn’t exist.
So why do we waste so much time waiting for it?
Recently, I gave a “not 100% ready” talk to 200 business owners.
I missed a few points.
I rushed through a section that need more pauses.
But I wouldn’t have known what to improve unless I actually gave the speech.
I wouldn’t have learned my weak spots by just practicing in my office in front of my dogs.
The only way to improve? Start.
- Put yourself out there.
- Learn what works (and what doesn’t).
- Adjust, improve, and keep moving forward.
Less waiting. More competing.
This week and beyond.
